"Tasty Small Casks" - the beginning of Mackmyra's small cask finishes that customers know and love today.
Preludium:05 Smakrika småfat (Tasty small casks) showcases the use of small casks maturation in our flavour profile. First matured in 200-litre ex-bourbon casks, the whisky was then finished in hand-made 30-litre casks for a final six months. These 30-litre casks have gone on to create our Reserve Cask Program, allowing customers to create their own, personalised whisky expression including using 'pre-stored' whisky from 200-litre casks. Finally, as with each of the Preludium series, a key member of Mackmyra was chosen for each expression. Magnus Dandanell, original Founder and former CEO was selected for this expression's representative.
Nose: Powerful and spicy with roasted aromas and vanilla, dried fruit and honey. A slight smokiness can be seen in the background.Taste: Spicy with intense vanilla tones from hard-charred oak barrels, which gives a full consistency.
Aftertaste: Aftertaste of oak, fiery spices and dried fruit.
The Preludium Story
Mackmyra Preludium was a series of six editions that were bottled in a limited edition between 2006 and 2007 and were some of the very first commercial releases for Sweden's first single malt distillery.
These expressions represent where Mackmyra wanted to explore in the future; from creating a 100% Swedish smoke recipe, creating new and exciting cask, maturing whisky in a mine, to using Swedish Oak for the first time to mature whisky. Each of these editions can be considered the 'teaser tasters' from the first years of Mackmyra and should be treated as such. They represent the history of our distillery and each is a chapter of how we began to create Sweden's first single malt.
The Classic Cask Finish - Round, soft with pleasing notes of vanilla, pear, apple, citrus caramel and honey.
